Federal Regions Development: From Strategy to Implementation

Summary

Draft strategies of socio-economic development of the federal districts (developed under the leadership of the Ministry of Regional Development) have specified the main directions of districts’ development until 2020. At present, the process of their review and approval comes to an end. In this regard the mechanism of strategies implementation which should include monitoring of their performance and possibility to make adjustments on a mid-term horizon becomes an important issue.
Another important activity for the implementation of strategies is the formation of regional investment policy and promotion of investment projects included in these strategies. A special institution of "regional commissioners" (created on instruction of the President of the Russian Federation of 02.04.2011 № 846) is supposed to promote the federal regions development in Russia. The main aim of this institution is to support business entities and individuals in implementation of private investment projects.
During the discussion at the round table it is suggested to present viewpoints of different federal districts on the above issues and make appropriate recommendations.
